Over the past five decades, the Ion Center has walked alongside thousands of survivors, innovated prevention models now used across the Commonwealth, and built partnerships that ensure safety is a shared responsibility. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we honor the generations of advocates, volunteers, donors, and community members who have made safety possible, and we commit to carrying that power forward.
What does safe mean to you?
When you hear this question, what comes to mind? Maybe it’s your family, friends, or colleagues. Or it’s home, work, or your favorite place to visit. You might be thinking about the people you want to stay safe. When you consider safety, or keeping your loved ones safe, what does that truly mean for you? That question is at the heart of this initiative.
There is a power in being safe. There is a power in feeling safe.
Safety is about being believed and respected, having control over your choices, knowing that help is available, living without intimidation, coercion, or violence, and feeling supported enough to heal and grow.
The Power of Safe is an initiative that highlights the transformative impact of safety. Over the past 50 years, the Ion Center has not only served survivors, we have partnered with schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and community organizations to strengthen safety and resilience across the region. When people feel safe, they can heal, thrive, and break cycles of violence for generations to come. Safety is the foundation that allows people, families, and communities to build healthier futures together. The Power of Safe reminds us that safety is just the beginning and that together, we all have a role in creating it.
This initiative shines a light on the ripple effect of safety and how one safe relationship, one informed bystander, or one supported survivor can transform lives and communities.
